Shoulder Pain can describe any discomfort in the shoulder area, affecting daily activities and movement. This issue can result from various causes, including injuries, wear and tear, and other health problems. The shoulder joint is complex, made up of bones, tendons, and muscles that allow flexible movement. Pain in this area can stem from an injury to any of these components.
Common causes of shoulder pain include: - Rotator Cuff Injuries: The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that stabilize the shoulder. Injuries or tears, often from repetitive motion or overuse, can cause significant pain.
- Arthritis: Both osteoarthritis, resulting from wear and tear, and rheumatoid arthritis can lead to inflammation and pain in the shoulder joint.
- Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis): This is characterized by stiffness and pain, often developing gradually and resolving over time.
- Bursitis: Inflammation of the bursa, a small fluid-filled sac that provides cushioning in the joint, can cause pain and limit movement.
Treatment often begins conservatively, with rest, physical therapy, and medications like anti-inflammatories, but severe cases might require injections or surgery. Proper evaluation, often involving imaging like X-rays or MRIs, is essential to determine the appropriate treatment plan and ensure effective recovery.
