Hand/Wrist/Finger Pain

Diagnosis | 1750759035

Hand/Wrist/Finger Pain refers to discomfort or soreness in the hand, wrist, or fingers, which can arise from various causes. These areas are made up of many small bones, ligaments, tendons, and nerves, allowing us to perform intricate movements.

Common causes of pain in these areas include injuries from falls, overuse from activities like typing, or conditions such as arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome. When the tendons or nerves become irritated or compressed, they can cause pain, stiffness, or tingling sensations. Carpal tunnel syndrome, for instance, involves compression of a key nerve in the wrist, leading to pain and numbness in the fingers.

Diagnosing the cause typically starts with a physical exam, and may involve imaging tests like X-rays or MRIs to get a clearer picture of the bones and tissues. Sometimes, tests like nerve conduction studies are used to check for issues like carpal tunnel syndrome.

Treatment depends on the cause but often begins with rest, ice, and over-the-counter pain relievers. Physical therapy or exercises may help improve strength and flexibility. In certain cases, wearing a splint or receiving corticosteroid injections can be beneficial. Surgery may be needed if these methods don’t relieve symptoms, especially in severe cases of nerve compression.
